Methodist Center for Performing Arts Medicine

Providing medical care to meet the special needs
of performing artists.

Performers, like skilled athletes, rely on physical dexterity and mental acuity to inspire and entertain audiences. As a performing artist you may have experienced ailments or injuries such as tendonitis, focal dystonia, depression, stage fright, or problems surrounding your voice, hearing, joints, hormones, skin or teeth. Maybe you have even missed performances because of health issues.

The physicians and therapists of the Methodist Center for Performing Arts Medicine (CPAM) at The Methodist Hospital are here to help you by treating and/or preventing these problems. They have specialized knowledge and experience pertaining to the particular medical needs of performing artists. Whether you are sick or injured, our specialists are committed to both helping you get back on stage quickly and supporting you through a long and healthy artistic career.

  • The nation's most comprehensive group of medical professionals, based in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center and is teamed to provide preventive, diagnostic, specialty and emergency care to performing artists.

  •
  • Home to nationally recognized specialists in the fields of otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), orthopedics, ophthalmology, kidney disease, neurology/neurosurgery, psychiatry and urology.

If you are a member of the professional performing arts community, you are eligible to immediately apply for the Center for Performing Arts Medicine Artist Card. Please complete this survey if you are already an artist card holder.

The card will ensure that your information is already part of The Methodist Hospital patient database. This speeds up your admission process and ensures that whenever you receive Methodist care your special needs, as an artist, are always considered.

For example, if you should need emergency care, simply present your CPAM Artist Card upon arrival at the Methodist emergency department. A patient liaison will be notified and can assist with any concerns you may have. CPAM specialists are also available for consultation should their expertise be required.
